Wednesday

A decapitated grey mouse lies squished on the ground, a tribe of flies works over its body & greenish guts, while a wasp works on its head a few inches away.
Baby blue dragonflies flit about in the sun.
An all white heron, startling in its brightness, watches me from the shallow water.
Yellow yarrow buds popping in the sun, announcing the zenith of summer.

Tuesday

A passing cloud shades the afternoon sun and suddenly the silver birch grove transforms into mystery before my eyes, silver and green and grey twitching and shuddering to the sounds of the warm breeze.
A dead dragonfly with a single iridescent wing standing straight up to the sky making rainbows in the middle of the path.
The river shimmers with afternoon light, stretching out and over to the far-away shore.
High above an eagle soars in front of bank of growing clouds.
The sharp sound of crickets rubbing their legs together in nocturnal delight.
A lone firefly snaps his tiny bulb on & off as he bobs through the long grass next to the path at dusk.
